September 2015 Vig Sherrill & Graphene

Meeting Date:
September 26, 2015

Vig Sherrill was the featured speaker for the September 26, 2015, TIA meeting. Vig is a scientist, entrepreneur, and successful businessman. His latest venture is General Graphene and Vig spoke about graphene, which is one atom thick.

I am very happy Vig Sherrill presented at our September meeting! I knew our members/attendees would enjoy learning about Graphene, the next super substance. Vig started out by giving us the basic information about becoming a small business owner/entrepreneur. This information is always helpful when we realize that owning your own business does not necessarily mean you have an easy row to hoe, but instead could be actually working more hours per week than working in a “regular” job! There is also the realism of projects started and actual successes. Unfortunately the success rate is low, approximately 5% but, as Vig emphasized the LOVE of the product or process is what actually drives many of the successes.

The real excitement began when Vig explained Graphene and the many possible applications along with the refining difficulties. Members asked many technical questions which Vig answered but seemed surprised at the group’s technical knowledge. Time ran out much too quickly as questions and solutions were posed and discussed about where Graphene was going. We will be reading a lot about Graphene in the future and we’ll all have the satisfaction of knowing any advancement of Graphene will be likely initiated by Vig’s company, General Graphene, and that he personally addressed TIA on September 26, 2015!

On a sad note, Bill Felknor passed away on October 3rd. Bill was a diehard inventor who had very successful inventions including the Topsy Turvy and Stove-top Popcorn Popper. Bill was an original member of TIA and spoke to the group on several occasions.

It’s hard to believe that fall is here and another year is coming to an end. I will be on vacation October 24th, so AJ will be leading the meeting. One topic he will be addressing will be the election of officers for the next year. Let’s focus on making next year the best year yet!!!

Remember to support your fellow inventor. Many times the only encouragement comes from YOU!!

See you soon, Carl
